The electoral district of Carleton, encompassing the former Goulbourn Township, has played a fascinating and important part in the political history of Canada for over 200 years. Carleton has had its own seat in the elected legislatures of Canada since 1820, following the establishment of the first settlements in the area. While the boundaries of the riding and its name have changed over the years, Carleton has been host to many colourful candidates, several of whom have been key figures in Canadian history.
Former Goulbourn Township Historical Society Vice-President, Shaun Peppy, presented his lecture on the political history of Carleton riding on Thursday, November 25. For anyone who missed the presentation it is available at the link below.
