Family and Social History Research
A list of family names for which we have files can be found by clicking here > Family History file index
Those interested in the history of Goulbourn Township will find the Goulbourn Historical Society Archives located in our “History Corner” at the Stittsville Branch of the Ottawa Public Library. This is treasure trove of information. Much of our material is fragile – please handle with care. Some items are photocopied and may not be available as originals.
Access to both the Family History (genealogical) Files and the Social History Files (schools, churches, settlement, businesses etc.) can be gained by requesting key access from the Information Desk Librarian at the Stittsville Library. Please note the Library Staff cannot help you with your research. Indexes to the material are located on top of the filing cabinet. Notes and research may be undertaken in the nearby Quiet Study Room. Copies of information may be made at the Library’s copying facilities for a small fee. Files need to be returned to their proper place and indication given to the Information Desk Librarian that the researcher has finished using the files so they may be secured again.
In addition, digital versions of our collection can be searched on the Society’s dedicated computer also located in the “History Corner”. You are required to review and accept our access/use agreement found in the binder next to the computer before signing in. You will also find search instructions available.
Use of any information for publication, web use or exhibit use must be credited to the Goulbourn Historical Society Archives.
Reference Boxes
Reference material consisting of pamphlets and booklets relating to Goulbourn is held in library boxes on shelves near the filing cabinet

The Society also has a collection of local history books on its reference shelves that can be accessed in the library. These are non-circulation and not part of the Public Library collect so please do not remove them.
